St David Stake Aaronic Priesthood Scout Camp

This week I attended the St David Stake Aaronic Priesthood Scout Camp on Mt Graham with our Deacon's Quorum. I had never been to Mt Graham before and was pleasantly surprised by it's beauty. We camped at Treasure Park which sits at about 9500 ft above sea level. Needless to say it was cold all week long. It rained on us most of the day on Tuesday. Other than that the weather was perfect.

Our boys had a great time and came in third for the Gerald Tenney Award which is awarded to the troop with the highest overall score in the nine categories that are judged. Eric Andersen, our Deacon's Quorum President, was awarded the Most Outstanding Scouter Award. All three of our boys memorized the eight purposes of the Aaronic Priesthood and four of the associated scriptures. Sean Hall, the Scoutmaster, and I memorized all eight purposes and all eight scriptures so we all received the buck knife that was offered as an incentive to get the boys to do it.
For the skit night, Our troop performed the submarine skit. Richard (Rico) Fratterole was sick that night so I sat in as the rear seaman who doesn't know how. It brought back memories of when Scott, Jeremy, and I performed it for a talent show at Jeff Davis Elementary School. If my memory serves me correctly, I was the one who didn't know how in that one also. Anyway, It was nice to see Seth say his lines audibly during the skit. That boy doesn't like to talk.
Thursday afternoon was Bishop's Outing and Devotional so Bishop Owens came up for the afternoon. The Teacher's Quorum came over from their camp and we played a variation of capture-the-flag that Bishop Owens thought up. During said game, I had a run in(literally) with one of the pine trees which inhabited the playing field. I was escaping the opposing team's side with the flag and caught a branch in the face. Unfortunately I got caught in the process so my battle wounds were all for naught. Oh well, at least Lesley digs my scars. Well, that's what she tells me anyway.

Nothing like some battle scars to impress the kids. Anything to win... Sacrifice the body... Pain is only weakness leaving the body... I had forgotten all about the submarine skit; I had to explain it to the fam. A Classic! Linda was mad because she could of used it last week at Cub Day Camp.

Man that was a long week! At least when I was in New York I called you. I think you should have been able to climb a tree to get reception. I think it helped Parkin that I was gone the week before, because he was adjusting to seeing me again and didn't morn his Dad not being there. You know how much that boy worships you, it could have been an even longer week! Glad your back, scars and all!!!!

So ya know that Gerald Tenney is the dad of my good friend Nate. Made me tear up a bit. He was a great man.
